Roof drain and downspout cleaning in Worcester

A roof drain that ponds after rain, a downspout that dumps into the cellar window, or ice that backs water under the shingles. Roto-Rooter clears roof drains and the leaders that are supposed to take the water away. Call or text (508) 335-3306. HIC#208076.

Roof drains we clear and what packed them

Leaves, shingle grit, and a crushed leader. Worcester winters add ice. Interior roof drains and exterior downspouts fail in different places — we start at the inlet.

Roof drain

  • Clogged scupper or dome
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Interior leader in a wall
  • Grit from old asphalt shingles

Downspout

  • Elbow packed at the gutter
  • Buried leader to a drywell
  • Crushed corrugated pipe
  • Discharge that floods the foundation

Ice and leaves

  • Ice dam backing into the drain
  • Fall leaves in the leader
  • Screens that were never cleaned
  • Freeze split in a conductor

Clear the inlet, then follow the water down

We start at the roof or gutter inlet, not in the basement. A ponding flat roof is often a dome strainer full of grit. A downspout that overflows at the second-floor elbow is usually leaves. Buried corrugated leaders in Worcester yards collapse; water then finds the cellar window instead of the drywell.

This is storm water, not sewage. If the water is already in the house, clearing the leader and drying the room are different jobs — water damage for the wet finish, this page for the drain. If the roof itself is leaking, that is outside our plumbing work. 61 Sandra Dr.

Labor and materials

Roof drain and downspout clearing is quoted after we see access — ladder work, an interior leader in a wall, or a buried line in the yard. Replacement elbows, strainers, and underground pipe are materials. We do not price a roof tear-off on this page.

Call or text (508) 335-3306 with whether the water is ponding on the roof or dumping at the foundation.

Keep the next storm off the ceiling

  • Clean gutter screens in the fall. A clogged screen is a dam, not protection.
  • Downspouts should discharge several feet from the foundation, not into a window well.
  • Interior roof drains need a path you can open. If the cleanout is buried in finish, say so when you book.
  • Ice dams are a roof and insulation problem as much as a drain problem. We will say which we can actually clear.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as a storm drain in the driveway?

No. Yard and driveway basins are storm drains. This page is the roof, gutters, and leaders.

Can you snake a downspout?

Often from the inlet or by pulling an elbow. A crushed underground leader needs pipe, not a longer cable. We will not pretend a snake will round a collapsed corrugated run.

Water is in the ceiling.

Call. We clear the drain if that is the source. Wet insulation and finish are water damage. A leak through shingles is not a drain job.

Do I need to be home?

Someone who can let us on the roof or into the attic leader should be. Exterior downspouts are faster if the yard is accessible.
