Shower and bathtub plumbing in Worcester

A valve that will not mix, a tub that will not drain, or a surround that is leaking into the hall. Roto-Rooter repairs shower valves, tub drains, and the piping behind older Worcester baths. Call or text (508) 335-3306.

Shower and tub problems we service

Most bath calls are a valve, a drain, a mixing issue, or water getting behind the surround.

Valves

  • Cartridge will not shut off
  • Diverter stuck on tub spout
  • Seized stem on an old two-handle
  • Pressure-balance failure

Drains

  • Tub slow or standing water
  • Hair packed in the shoe
  • Trip-lever linkage broken
  • Leaky waste-and-overflow

Surrounds

  • Water behind tile or fiberglass
  • Failed caulk at the tub deck
  • Soft wall at the mixing valve
  • Pan leak on a tile shower

Mixing issues

  • Scald then ice-cold
  • No hot at the shower only
  • Low pressure on one side
  • Cross-feed when another fixture runs

Open the wall only as far as the valve requires

A dripping shower is often a cartridge we can pull from the trim. An old Worcester two-handle that is frozen in plaster may need the valve body replaced, which means a hole in the surround. We tell you that before we cut. Tile showers with a leaking pan are a bigger conversation than a tub/shower combo with a failed overflow gasket.

You supply the valve, trim, drain kit, or tub. We do not lock you into a brand. If you are remodeling the whole bath, we handle the plumbing on this page — valves, drains, and the leaks they cause.

Labor and materials

Shower and tub work is quoted on site. A cartridge swap through existing trim is not the same job as a valve body in a tiled wall. Trim, cartridges, and drain kits are yours to buy or we source them at cost.

Call or text (508) 335-3306 with the brand on the handle if you can read it, and whether the problem is drip, drain, or temperature.

Slow the next leak

  • Recaulk the tub deck before the bead is black and pulling away. Water behind a surround is the expensive version of this job.
  • Hair in the tub shoe is preventable. A strainer costs less than a drain pull.
  • If the shower scalds when a toilet flushes, the pressure-balance cartridge is tired. Do not “just live with it.”
  • Keep an access panel if you have one. Building a valve in without access is how the next repair becomes demolition.

Frequently asked questions

Can you replace just the cartridge?

If the valve body is still made and the trim comes off, yes. Some older bodies are obsolete. We will not force a mismatched cartridge and send you a drip in a week.

The tub is slow. Is that plumbing or drain cleaning?

A packed shoe or broken trip-lever is this page. A clogged branch or main is drain cleaning. We will know which once we open the drain.

Do you install new tubs and showers?

We do the plumbing: valves, drains, and hookups. A full tear-out with tile or a new surround is quoted as remodel labor. Ask if you want both on one visit.

Water is staining the ceiling below the bath.

That can be the overflow, the shoe, the valve, or the pan. We dry, isolate, and open the smallest access that finds it. See also leaks.
