You buy the disposal — InSinkErator, Waste King, or whatever the box store has in the size you want. We pull the old one, set the flange, wire the switch loop if it is already there, and reconnect the trap. Light electrical on a disposal is the existing switch and cord, not a new circuit.

Keep the disposal from dying early
- Run cold water the whole grind, then a few seconds after.
- Keep grease, fibrous peels, and coffee grounds out of it. Worcester drains do not need the extra sludge.
- If it jams, hit the reset and use the hex key in the center of the bottom. Do not stick a hand in the splash guard.
- A leak at the flange is often a putty or gasket job, not a new motor. Call before you buy a replacement you may not need.

Should I buy the disposal before you come?
If you already know it is dead, yes — match the sink opening and decide if you want a dishwasher inlet. If you are not sure, wait. We will tell you if a repair is enough.
The dishwasher is backing up into the sink. Is that the disposal?
Often the knockout plug was never removed, or the disposal is packed and the dishwasher has nowhere to dump. We check both. Persistent backups may be the drain line — see sink drains.
Can you add a disposal to a sink that never had one?
Yes if the sink has a standard opening and there is a switched outlet under the cabinet, Deep farm sinks and odd flanges need a look first.
It smells even when it runs. Do I need a new one?
Usually not. Food stuck in the splash guard and the baffle is the usual cause. A new unit will smell the same in a month if the habit does not change.
