Pipe we service and the usual failures

Worcester housing is a museum of whatever was in stock the decade it was built. We work on all of it.

Galvanized

  • Low pressure from scale
  • Threads leaking at fittings
  • Rusty water on the hot side
  • Branch too far gone to patch

Copper

  • Pinholes from pitting
  • Green crust at solder joints
  • Dielectric failure at a tank
  • Frozen split on an uninsulated run

PEX and PVC

  • Crimp or expansion fitting leak
  • UV-damaged PEX in a sunlit basement
  • PVC drain glue joint failure
  • Wrong material on a hot line

Repipe

  • Whole-house supply replacement
  • Selective branch replacement
  • Moving a stack or a run
  • Tying new PEX to remaining copper

Patch the hole, or replace the run that will fail next

A single pinhole in copper can be a coupling. Three pinholes on the same branch in a year is a branch replacement. Galvanized that has a 1/4-inch opening left inside a 3/4-inch pipe will not be saved by another nipple. We show you the cut-out so you can see the scale, then we quote the labor for the repair you actually need.

You pick the material — copper, PEX, or PVC where it belongs. We do not mix hot water onto drain-rated plastic. This page is interior supply and drain piping, not outdoor buried sewer or water services. Over 20 years of opening these ceilings. Labor-only; pipe and fittings are yours or billed at cost.

Labor and materials

Pipe repairs and repipes are quoted after we see access, length, and how many finishes we have to open. A basement ceiling run is not the same price as a line in a plaster wall. Pipe, fittings, and valves are materials.

Call or text (508) 335-3306 with the material you can see and whether this is a leak, low pressure, or a planned repipe.

Slow the next leak

  • Insulate supply lines in unheated Worcester basements and rim joists. Freeze breaks are preventable.
  • Dielectric unions at water heaters matter. Skipping them is how you eat the tank or the copper.
  • If pressure is low on the upper floors and the main looks fine, the galvanized branches are the usual suspect.
  • Do not hang storage from pipes. That is how solder joints open up.

Frequently asked questions

PEX or copper for a repipe?

Both work. PEX is faster in tight Worcester joist bays and handles freeze a little better. Copper is still a solid choice where you want it visible and protected from UV and rodents. You pick; we install.

Can you replace one bathroom’s piping only?

Yes. Selective replacement is common. We isolate that branch so the rest of the house stays in service as much as possible.

The drain smells. Is that a supply pipe?

Usually a trap or vent. Drain piping we repair; clogs are drain cleaning. Describe the smell and which fixture.

Will you patch the walls?

We close the plumbing. Drywall and paint can be quoted as general service. Ask up front if you want the hole gone when we leave.

How long is the water off for a branch repair?

A localized repair is often a few hours. A whole-house supply repipe is a planned day (or more) with the water off in stages. We set that expectation before we cut.
